Santiago de Calatrava is an attractive little town surrounded by olive groves  to the west of Jaen province. With less than 1,000 in habitants, except in the summer months when many return to the family house to escape the heat of summer in the larger towns and cities.

Located near the town of Martos, 20kms to the east and the provincial capital Jaen 42 km to the east. It's a historical town where Roman and Arab remains have been found and the atrractive Barroque church Iglesia Virgen de la Estrella and the Ayuntamiento - Town Hall, form it's centre.

For a small town it has a lot going on. It has a theatre, a gym and a municipal pool (only open in the summer months) which has a bar offering a good choice of dishes. Each approach to this small town is through an enormous expanse of olive groves which panoramic views, head further west and you are soon in the province of Cordoba.
