MARCH 2008
Hi,
Welcome to the March Newsletter. Spring has arrived with the blossom on the almond trees, the vines have all been cut back and together with the plants in the garden, are budding. We have already spent hours at the local gardens centres, planning the botanical delights that await our patios.
The 28th of February was Andalucia Day and a bank holiday. All the villages had fiestas, with bouncy castles for the children, beer/wine tents and the most enormous paellas for all to enjoy. The bands who have been practising over the last two months, played all day and night long. This is the first of the many, many fiestas we will have throughout 2008. The next one is Semana Santa (Easter). Come and spend it with us.

See you all soon.

Info for drivers in Spain
An EU driving licence can be used in Spain for both residents or visitors and there is no legal need to change it for a Spanish driving licence as long as you take the required medicals when necessary. However, if you prefer you can change it for a small fee at the Trafico department in the province where you live. You can also register your EU driving licence here if you wish but again it is not a legal requirement. If you do decide to register you will receive advice letters when a medical is due or if the EU licence is about to expire.
It is very important that the date of expiry as printed on your driving licence has not been passed and that the periodical medicals have been satisfied as for Spanish drivers.
When the EU driving licence has expired, eg when the driver is 70, if the driver is resident in Spain they must then obtain a Spanish licence.
Happy Easter!!
Or Semana Santa here in Spain is a week long festival of parades and celebrations. The larger towns have processions throughout the week with colourful, impressive floats being carried through the streets by members of brotherhoods of the Church. The first of the parades usually take place on Palm Sunday and it’s worth trying to see at least one if you’re in Spain.
And if you are in Spain………….are you looking for properties?

Greyfriar’s Bobby
This famous Skye Terrier from Edinburgh will be the international star of the “Feria del Perro” dog show in Archidona this year. The organisers of the show have announced that the event is now going to have an international flavour and this year there will be a stand where visitors can find out more about Bobby who allegedly guarded his master’s grave after he died for 14 years before passing away himself in 1872.
This year’s show is on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th when, for the first time, international breeds will be shown as well as Spanish breeds. There will also be a photography competition this year.
Knock ‘em down……………
…………and name and shame the agents who sold them, says Graham Govier of Inland Andalucia.
Following the bad press about illegal builds in Spain, our Managing Director decided to speak out. If you’d like to read the article, which was published recently, click on the link: Knockemdown Article
Mr Lollipop
The lollipop was the creation of Spanish confectioner Enric Bernat in 1958. He
originally named it “GOL” but then changed it to “Chups” from the Spanish verb “chupar” which means to suck. His idea to put a lump of candy onto a stick became an instant hit and is now sold world wide, it has even been enjoyed by astronauts in space.
