MARCH 2007
Hi,
Welcome to the March newsletter. Spring is the most beautiful time in Spain, the blossom is on the trees, the birds are singing and the temperatures are rising in readiness for the summer.
Last weekend was spent mooching around the local markets and then the first trip to the lakes, where we will idle away most of the summer. We also took a lovely trip down to Fuengirola and watched the brave holiday-makers swimming in the sea, while we ate lunch in the glorious sunshine.
Come and buy your property this month and you may be sitting in your own patio or on the roof terrace in time for the tranquil summer months.
Looking forward to seeing you in March.
Maria
Happy Mother’s Day
Regards and best wishes to all mothers in the UK for your special day on 18
th
March. In Spain this day is celebrated on the first sunday in May so we have a little longer to wait.
This month meet Maria, our Propety Lister
Maria del Valle Vera was born in Ecija, reputed to be the hottest town in all Andalucia. Her parents still live there and Maria visits most weekends and holidays to enjoy as much time as possible with her family. One of her brothers lives in Seville, the other in Madrid, while her sister is married and lives in Washington DC.
Maria herself studied in Madrid for 3 years and obtained a diploma in Law before moving to London in the UK where she started work in a café bar and then moved into a job with a top consultancy company. On her return to Spain she worked in Marbella for a law firm who specialise in property purchase before the pull of inland life became too much for her and she returned to inland Andalucia. She loves her job with the Inland Andalucia, finding and taking on new properties, checking paperwork and ensuring that everything is correct before the property reaches our website. Maria says “Although it’s a hectic job with long hours, its very fulfilling and I love meeting people”.
When asked about her favourite places she doesn’t hesitate is answering – “Antequera is a beautiful town, especially the older part with its many monuments, arched entrances to the town and the beautiful walls surrounding it. I love eating with my friends in the old market which was converted to a tapas bar on the ground floor with a restaurant above. The fish there is delicious.”
“I love Andalucia, the friendly charming people and the culture that has not been equalled in any other towns I have visited”.
Córdoba-Málaga motorway
Magdalena Álvarez, the Development Minister, officially opened a new stretch of the A-45 motorway from Córdoba to Málaga recently. This new stretch runs for 10.5 milometres from Fernán Núñez to Montilla and is the seventh section of the road to open.
According to the Minister, the full length of the motorway will be in service before the end of the year.
Second health centre for Antequera
A 3,000 square metre plot on Avenida de la Estación has been earmarked for a second health centre for Antequera. The plans submitted also include a Mercadona supermarket, a cafeteria, offices and parking.
Spanish Olives
Spain is the world’s largest producer of olive oil, with around 30% of the world’s total production and about half of this amount coming from Andalucia. They are harvested from September onwards, the early green olives are used for eating and the olives that are turning black or are black are mainly used for oil. There are several different varieties of olive and this is something that is quite often identified on the bottles of oil. The most popular Spanish olives being Arbequina, Cornicabra, Empeltre, Hojiblanca, Picual and Picudo. Hojiblanca is grown in the provinces of Seville, Cordoba and Malaga and the name is often seen on the many olive mills in the region.
There is nothing nicer than olives freshly prepared with vinegar and a concoction of herbs and garlic. Of course, olive oil is used widely in Spanish cuisine - at the start of the day drizzled on toasted rolls, used in cooking, served as a dressing with green salad, tomato salad, sprinkled over cheese or used for preparing dishes such as Cazuela de Gambas, prawns in seasoned hot olive oil with fresh bread to soak up the flavours.
On Tour With Grupo Inland Andalucia……..a tour of the real Spanish villages
Badolatosa
Situated in east Seville province is the small town of Badolatosa, population of approx 3,200. The town is handy for the A-92 motorway and is approximately 1 hour from both Seville and Malaga airports.
The town is traditionally Spanish in a lovely setting in the valley of the Genil river which is an ideal location for the agricultural crops that are grown there, ie cereals and grapes as well as the olive trees and evergreen oaks. The very pretty main street is cobbled and lines with orange trees with a church at the end. There are a few bars/restaurants off this street, with tables and chairs extending out onto the pavement.
Our property this month is situated in Badolatosa, ideal for a large family or B&B venture. Click here for details on TH1586
