FEBRUARY 2007

Hi,

And welcome to February’s Newsletter. January was exceptionally busy, both here in Mollina and in our Fuengirola office. Many of you have decided that 2007 is definitely the year to buy your Spanish retreat.

There's fresh snow in Granada province so the skiing is good in Sierra Nevada, whilst we enjoy warm spring temperatures on the Antequera plains.

We have news, facts about the areas and the launch of our new promotion so please read on, enjoy and book those flights!

Great News from Inland Andalucia

We are now sporting a new corporate image following on from the successful launch of our new website last November – www.inlandandalucia.com. We’re the same old faces only our name has changed.

So we say goodbye to Simply Inland…..and hello to Grupo Inland Andalucia.

We would also like to say “Welcome Back To Trevor Spink”

Trevor worked for the company previously but left in 2005 for a relatively short spell back in the UK to oversee the sale of a property there. However, together with his family, wife Gina and children Thomas (8), Charlotte (5) and Jasmine (3), they are all delighted to be back………and we’re delighted to welcome him back to the company as Group Sales Director. Trevor brings with him a depth of knowledge in real estate and financial matters relating to property purchase.

In Trevor’s own words he describes why the move back to Spain has been so welcomed by his family:

“ The weather obviously means that my children are able to play outside more, they love it here. The two older ones have settled in well at school where there is much more outside activity. There is a freedom here that you don’t get in the UK, it is a safe family orientated country and you can take your children anywhere with you. Our youngest daughter Jasmine was actually born in Spain and so we’ve had first hand experience of the Spanish NHS which was superb.

The scenery in Spain is beautiful, there are lots of open spaces, and my wife Gina has been looking forward to being able to buy the fresh fish, dorada and prawns which she loves, on a daily basis again. Its great to be back.”

AVE info

We’ve talked so much about the AVE train line over the past few months that we thought it may be of interest to give some facts about it.

AVE is an acronym for Alta Velocidad Española which literally means “Spanish High Speed”, but ave also means “bird” in Spanish. The train can certainly fly like a bird reaching speeds of up to 300km/h on dedicated standard gauge tracks, permitting direct connections outside Spain in the future.

The first AVE train commenced service between Madrid and Sevilla in April 1992 and in the future Spain’s target is for 7.200km (4,500 miles) of high-speed railway for 350km/h operation. The trains comprise two power cars, with three first class and four turista (standard) class trailers, a bar/buffet vehicle and the capacity to accommodate 325 passengers. They are made in France with some Spanish components, boasting modern technology including the latest automatic doors and continuous speed control facility.

The Antequera-Malaga section of the 155km Cordoba-Malaga route includes the twin Abdalajis tunnels which are the longest of the AVE network at 7.1 km (4.4 mile). Excavation of the eastern tunnel began in November 2003 through a variety of rock types and finally holed through in January 2006. The western tunnel holed through 2.5 months later.

Update on the proposed Airport at Antequera

The Spanish Airports Authority, Aena, has declared the planned airport in Antequera viable which means that the construction group Vera can progress to the next stage of the scheme. This could see the airport operational by 2010, with 4,300 landings and take-offs and a boost on the employment in the area with an estimated 5000 jobs being created.

Valentine’s Day in Spain

Although it’s the Frenchmen who have the reputation of being the most romantic and sensitive lovers in the world, the Spanish men certainly know how to win the hearts of their beloveds. Red roses or bunches of flowers are usually given by husbands to their wives while unmarried couples exchange other gifts. Restaurants do a roaring trade as couples enjoy a romantic meal together while in some of the larger cities entire streets are decorated in romantic colourful hues.

Schools also seem to take part in the fun of the occasion with post boxes being available for the pupils to post their cards so they can be delivered anonymously.

Osuna

Osuna is situated in the province of Seville, just off the A92 motorway and 86km from the capital city. It is ideally located, being an hour from Seville, Malaga and Cordoba and has a population of just under 18,000.

It is an historic town with some fine mansions dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Several of the town’s most impressive buildings can be found on the hilltop overlooking the town, including the university which was founded in 1548.

A “must” for any tourist visiting Osuna is the Holy Week at Easter which has been declared a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. Also worth visiting are the archaeological sites at Las Canteras.

Among famous people associated with Osuna is the commander of the first European ship to enter the San Francisco Bay in California, Juan Manuel de Ayala. He successfully navigated his ship, the San Carlos through the Golden Gate with some difficulty and great caution because of the tides on 5th August 1775.

……and finally, in the film “The Passenger”, Locke, a character played by Jack Nicholson was assassinated in Hotel La Gloria in Osuna.

Have a look at our property of the month which is an immaculate townhouse situated in this beautiful town. Click here for details on TH1805
