APRIL 2007
Hi,
Welcome to the April Newsletter. Well, March has
been the busiest month for me. You came over by the dozens! Our new
development properties have proved extremely popular, having sold 7 in the
last few weeks. Only one left in
Aguadulce. Many of
the purchasers choosing to be a part of our “Invest 2 Let”
scheme, with a guaranteed year’s rental income.
We had a surprise visit from a family member last
week and decided to show them the “real” Spain, heading out towards Seville. We spent a lovely day at our
friends’ country house in Marchena, taking in the breathtaking scenery
while eagles flew up above. It almost felt like being in the countryside back
in the UK
but with the sun beating down on us. In the next field was a large herd of
the famous black bulls which are reared in this area for fighting! During the
afternoon we had a lesson from the worker who tends to the olive trees. Did
you know there are 54 different types of olive trees??
Easter is a very special time in Spain and you
can read all about “Semana Santa” a little further on down in the
newsletter. Come on over for a short break to be a part of the festivities
and begin searching for THAT perfect
place in Andalucia.
See you soon!

EU
Residents – New Legislation
From 28th March European citizens no longer
require residence cards. However if you plan to stay in the country for
longer than three months you are required to register in person at the
Foreigners’ Office (Oficina de Extranjeros) in your province of
residence or at designated police stations. You will then be issued with a
certificate stating your name, address, nationality, identity number and date
of registration.
If you already possess a residence card you do
not need to do anything until it has expired, when you will be issued with a
certificate.
Healthy
Living in Spain
According to a recent survey carried out by the
Spanish National Institute for Statistics,
Spain has
around 10,000 centenarians (over 100) and some of them in very good health.
There are now over 7 million people here over 65 years of age. Life
expectancy for women is the highest in Europe
at 83.8 years.
Where
we are and where we cover!!
Most of you will know where we are located but
for those of you who have yet to visit, our Head Office is in Mollina, a
beautiful Spanish town just off the A92 Malaga/Seville motorway and only 10
minutes from Antequera. On the ground floor is our Sales Office, co-ordinated
by Sue who will be pleased to welcome you. In our busy administration offices
on the first floor there are 10 staff working hard to ensure paperwork is in
order before the properties go on the market, right through to the completion
of sales, IT, graphics, finance and the gorgeous girls in this office!!
We have houses, plots, commercial premises and
brand new properties in the large circle formed between south Cordoba, east Seville,
north Malaga and west Granada.
If you’re holidaying on the coast or based
there while looking for properties, pop into our Fuengirola Office which is
situated opposite the beach in the square across from the port car parking,
where Paul always gives a great welcome to everyone.
On
Tour with Grupo Inland Andalucia………….a tour of the
real Spanish villages
Iznajar
If you drive north along the A333 towards Iznajar
you will be driving with the famous lake in view for a few kilometres before you
actually see the town. When the road starts to wind downwards you will round
one of the bends and suddenly the town will come into view across the lake
– it’s breathtaking. Built on a hill there are lots of white
houses leading up to the church and castle at the top (which is floodlit in
the evenings). The views from the town itself of the surrounding countryside
are equally stunning. The streets are narrow and one-way so parking on the
outskirts and walking is one option, although there is a car-park and viewing
point in the town.
There are many shops, health centre, banks, bars
and restaurants where you can taste both local and European cuisine. Just
outside the town is the very popular beach where you can enjoy the water and
the sun. There are some sports on the lake, although motorised boats are not
allowed.
As in most Spanish towns, the people of Iznajar
love their festivals and one of the most popular is Semana Santa (Holy week at
Easter). There are parades most days leading up to Easter Sunday which are
well worth watching.
We have two lovely properties in the Iznajar
area:
CJ071 is a 3 bed, 2 bath reformed property on a
450m² plot with amazing views. Click
here for details on CJ071
TH1834 has 4 beds, requiring some reform. Click

Semana
Santa in Spain
Easter week in Spain, celebrated from Palm
Sunday to Easter Sunday is the most important celebration in the country. The
larger towns have many processions throughout the week, while the smaller
villages may have just a few. The processions are colourful, impressive and
noisy as the elaborate floats bearing either the Virgin Mary or Christ are
carried through the streets followed by members of the brotherhoods of the
Church and penitents (and many just curious sightseers). Although this is a religious
festival there is lots of frivolity and excitement as everyone enjoys this
special time.
If Semana Santa in Spain appeals to you then call us
now, 0800 198 0006. We have
checked the internet and there are still some flights available at good rates,
i.e. 2 adults flying from Manchester to Malaga on Tuesday 3rd
April, returning on Sunday 8th April for under 155 euros each
(approx £107). Hurry, they go quickly.
If you’re staying on the coast over Easter
and want to view some of our properties, just give us a call and we’ll
come and pick you up. We’ll give you a tour of the areas we cover and
take you to the properties of your choice.
Spurs
or Spain………..the
Battle
Commences!
Five of our male members of staff are taking the
opportunity to enjoy the Spurs v Seville
football match live next Thursday evening, 5th April. The match,
which is being played in Seville,
has been the topic of many conversations in the office over the past week
(and the butt of much ribbing). Why? Because four supporters are shouting for
Spurs and one for Seville!!!
Now this is serious stuff, they will not even be travelling together.
Managing Director v Financial Controller, should be interesting!!
Anyone
for Flamenco?
This month our personality is Derek Owen Scarfe who
joined our company last August and enjoys showing clients around our
properties and the area. Derek is one of our more flamboyant members of staff
in both his professional and personal life. He loves his job and has great
enthusiasm for it but his passion has to be flamenco guitar and salsa. He was
taught flamenco by the world famous Paco Peña at his conservatoire in London between the ages
of 7 and 16. He is frequently asked to play locally but as yet he has not
found time to teach salsa, although we do get displays in the office from
time to time.
Married to Christina for 32 years, they have two
daughters who were both dancers, one now owns Stagecoach School of Dance and
the other is a dance teacher at the school. They also have two grandchildren,
Amelia and Oliver.
Derek has had a dream to move to Spain since
he learnt flamenco. He was an engineer in the Royal Navy for 17 years and
latterly worked for a mobile phone company before making the decision to
move. He has no regrets: “I love Andalucia, the lovely fresh air, the
sun and especially my home town of Alameda.
Our house is a dream house which we bought from the company. We love eating
out, a particular favourite is El Tempranillo which is a local restaurant who
serve super Spanish food but we also enjoy Chinese food so we frequently
visit the Olympia Restaurant in Mollina and The Big Wok in Antequera.”
Now Derek has fulfilled one dream of moving to Spain, his
new desire is to own another motorbike (the last was when he was 22) and to
learn to ride a horse Andalucian style!!
